SSA President's Letter - January 2016
By Alvin R. Santiago, SSA President
I hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday season and has started out with a solid step forward into the New Year. 2016 marks the Shareholder Services Association's 70th year of existence and we look forward to a very productive year.
The SSA has actually had a head start into the new year from the flurry of activity at the end of 2015 with our joint filing along with the STA, of the Amicus Brief to the Supreme Court of the United States, the publication of the T+2 Industry Implementation Playbook by the T+2 Steering Committee, and the Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (ANPR) by the Securities Exchange Commission for new transfer agent rules and record safekeeping. With all this happening we have had to pick up our pace to stay ahead of these very important events in our industry. Keep an eye out on updates from the SSA on these issues as they become available.
It is important that even with all the activity of some very key events in our industry that we do not overlook the pillars that our association was built on 70 years ago – education, advocacy and networking. We will continue to provide education for our membership through our very popular webinars, luncheon update meetings and annual conference; a schedule of those upcoming events can be found at the bottom of this letter. We are also currently exploring the possibility of creating a professional certification program through our educational tool, the eLearning Program.
