Education is a cornerstone of the Shareholder Services Association. The SSA has established the James R. Smith
Scholarship Program to assist members' children and grandchildren who plan to continue education in college or vocational school programs. Renewable $2500 scholarships are offered each year for full-time study at an accredited institution of the student's choice.The application period is generally from November 1 to January 15 each year.
Participation in the program is open to dependent children and grandchildren of SSA members.
This scholarship program is administered by Scholarship Management Services, a department of Scholarship America. Scholarship America is a national nonprofit educational support and student aid service organization that seeks to involve and assist the private sector in expanding educational opportunities and encouraging educational achievement. Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, gender, disability, or national origin.
The collection, processing and evaluation of applications for James R. Smith scholarship awards are handled entirely by Scholarship Management Services, an independent third-party. The SSA, its officers and its board members play no role in this aspect of the program, and become aware of who the successful applicants are only after they have been chosen by Scholarship Management Services.
