My role at The Hershey Company
My career with Hershey began in 1982 in the Corporate Secretary’s Office. I learned about stock and stockholder relations, SEC filings, records retention, corporate law and governance, unclaimed property, boards of directors and committees, annual stockholders’ meetings, proxy statements/annual reports/Forms 10-K and 10-Q, subsidiary maintenance, etc. I earned a Paralegal certification and also worked in our Legal Department. In 1995 I transferred to Investor Relations to take responsibility for stockholder relations. I was named Manager of Stockholder Relations shortly thereafter. I love the legal and regulatory aspects of the job, as well as the customer service focus. Currently, my responsibilities include: managing all internal and external stockholder-related activities; overseeing the transfer agent relationship; developing shareholder communications; coordinating the proxy and annual meeting process with the Law Department; managing a global employee stock purchase plan and a direct stock purchase plan; and involvement in a variety of stock award, stock incentive and broad-based stock option plans.
Why I am a member of SSA
I joined SSA in 2016 and it is clear to me that I should have joined years ago! SSA is an excellent resource for the shareholder relations professional. The education and networking opportunities are invaluable as we all work to keep abreast of changes in the industry. I attended my first conference this year and came away with not only some great contacts in the industry, but a number of initiatives I am in the process of implementing.
A little about me
I live in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, just a short drive from Hershey. I have a 27 year old daughter, Morgan, and I lost my 17 year old son, Mark, to suicide in 2013. As a result, I formed a non-profit suicide prevention organization, MAKE A MARK FOR MARK, and I volunteer with the local chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. I share that I am a suicide loss survivor whenever possible to spread awareness and prevent others from experiencing this tragedy in their lives. My hobbies include traveling, cooking, reading, music, and spending time with family and friends.
