Assistant Secretary and Director of Stockholder Services, Merck & Co., Inc.
What's my role at Merck
For the past 20 years at Merck, any questions relating to shares of stock, dividends, proxies, etc. find their way to my desk looking for an answer! With a large registered shareholder base (170,000) and an even larger street population (1.4 million) there are many questions that need answering on a regular basis. If I don't know the answer, my job is to find the answer since all investors, large and small, should be able to rely on the company for assistance. I am also the main contact for all services providers who perform stockholder related work for Merck. In addition to the above, my job is to keep up with all of the changes related stockholder matters involving the SEC, NYSE, IRS, etc.
Why I'm a member of the SSA?
For all of the reasons above and more! With all of my years of experience in this business there always seems to be a new question that I have never heard of before. My SSA membership provides me with all sorts of connections to industry experts that are always more than willing to share their knowledge with me.
What I enjoy most about being an SSA member?
Friendship! There currently are over 200 active members who I would definitely consider to be my friends! Because of that friendship I am as willing to share my knowledge as they are willing to share their knowledge. Whether through email, telephone or in-person contact at regular association meetings, those connections are what make the organization a great group to be a part of.
A little bit about me.
Prior to joining Merck in 1991, I previously worked in the Stock Transfer Department for The Connecticut Bank & Trust Co. in client relationship management for 12 years. Prior to joining the Stock Transfer industry, I spent 4 years collecting delinquent loans for a living. Now that was a real fun job! I graduated from the University of New Haven with a Bachelors degree in General Management. I've been married for 33 years and have two wonderful daughters, one grandchild and another on the way.
