My role at Anadarko Petroleum Corporation:
In 2000 when I joined Anadarko in the Corporate Legal area, I had my introduction to the shareholder services world in a small way. I was a “newbie” in that area so I learned by trial and error over the years. Now, in my role as Senior Staff Legal Specialist, reporting to the Corporate Governance Manager, I wear many hats. My favorite hat happens to be Shareholder Services. My primary responsibilities in the shareholder services world are working as a liaison between our registered shareholders and our transfer agent, Computershare, and assisting shareholders, brokers, or other account representatives with questions regarding their accounts or providing historical information. Because of some major corporate actions over the years, I have gained quite a lot of historical knowledge that enables me to address questions, or point shareholders or their representatives in the right direction. My other hats – I am also involved in the annual meeting, D&O questionnaires, record retention, escheat matters, financings, corporate governance and anything else that falls within the purview of our group.
Why I'm a member of SSA:
How did SSA come into my world – I believe it was recommended to me by my Relationship Manager – I joined the organization in 2008. The summer conferences caught my attention over the years and I finally got to attend my first conference in 2013, where I thoroughly enjoyed the speakers and the opportunity to meet others in the service industry. The SSA organization provides educational resources and forums with opportunities to dialogue with others about their experiences and best practices, and the organization keeps me informed about the industry, online and through the conferences.
Why I signed up for Shareholder Services Professional Certificate:
In 2017, I believe, I noticed on the website that SSA had begun putting out information that they were working on a certification program and that information about the testing would follow. From day ONE, I jumped on that information and shared the desire to pursue this certificate with my very supportive Corporate group. My path crosses all the areas involved in the program in a limited way, but I wanted to gain a better understanding about each of those areas, and I did. I was up for the challenge of studying and I received my certificate. I highly recommend pursuing this!
More about me:
I am a native Texan, went to college in Oklahoma, have been married to my husband for 50+ years now, have lived in Louisiana, Arkansas, and moved back to Texas. I am very fortunate to have my 2 children and 2 grandchildren, ages 17 and 15, who live close by; and I also have my church family, who are important to me. I love to travel, especially to the historical areas, both in the states and internationally, and I especially enjoy river cruises in Europe.
